CRESPAIA
We are located in Fano, among the gentle hills overlooking the Adriatic Sea, as a family project devoted to creating wines that reflect the soul of the land.

Nestled in Località Prelato, a historic site with Roman origins, we cultivate 10 hectares of organic vineyards. At its heart stands a small 18th-century church, a quiet witness to centuries of history and tradition.

Our focus is on authenticity, care, and respect for the land. Our core is the production of the Bianchello del Metauro variety, which is nurtured to express the unique character of the hills, the coastal breezes, and the light that defines this region.
Organic farming is more than a method for us — it is a philosophy: respecting the soil, preserving biodiversity, and giving back to the earth what it offers.

Crespaia is a place where wine becomes emotion, memory, and future — a bridge between the past and generations to come, an invitation to live with authenticity and harmony.
How did Crespaia come to life, and what values continue to inspire your work day after day?
Crespaia was born from a family’s desire to give the land a voice through wine — a voice that guards tradition and culture, reflects the values of our hills, and carries the emotions and memories that have bound our family to this ancient place.
Crespaia is a "family affair": it all stared with Rossano Sgammini; today Cecilia, his daughter, takes care of the winery, to preserve our heritage and pass it to the next generations.
Every day, our work in the vineyards is a way of connecting with this history and ensuring it continues into the future. Each vine is treated as a living being, and our role is to create the healthiest, most balanced environment for it to thrive.

We are immersed in living history: Località Prelato is a site of Roman origins, the 10 hectares of vines nest right at its heart a small 18th-century church. The church lays there, quietly watching over the land and reminding us of the heritage we are entrusted to protect.

Among our varieties, Bianchello del Metauro the significant. This native grape has grown in these hills for centuries and carries the identity of the region. Working with this varietal is either a privilege as a responsibility. Every decision, from pruning to hand selection, is guided by the needs of the vine and the desire to let it fully express its inner, singular, character.

Organic farming is at the core of everything we do, supporting soil health, biodiversity, and the natural balance of the vineyard. Each bottle reflects this philosophy — harmony, respect, loyalty to nature and people, but also authenticity, care, and the wish to preserve the past while looking to the future.

The rolling hills of the Marche and your native grape varieties are the soul of your wines — what does it mean to you to honor and interpret these vines while staying true to the land they come from?
Our connection to the land begins at the roots. Growing Bianchello means understanding not only its growth, but also the story it carries. Each vine is a living witness to the history of the region, and through careful cultivation, we strive to let its unique character shine in every bottle.

The waving hills of Fano, caressed by the Adriatic breeze and bathed in soft sunlight, help to shape the personality of each vine. Our role is to respect the land, watching how it responds to winds and light, guiding, never imposing, the growth of the vines. From hand-tending the vines to selecting the best clusters, every choice is rooted in the desire to preserve and enhance what nature and tradition have given us.

Honouring these native vines is also about carrying forward a legacy. By nurturing the grapes and the soil, we connect the past to the future, transforming the history of this territory into wines that express authenticity, elegance, and a sense of place.
Crespaia is first and foremost a family; every bottle conveys us and our bond with the beauty of the serene landscapes and the people who care for it.

Climate change is reshaping the world of wine. What kind of challenges has it brought to your vineyards, and how are you responding to them?
Facing climate change is not about controlling the environment — it’s about observing, adapting, and creating the best possible conditions for the vines to be productive and resilient. By focusing on their well-being, we can continue to work in harmony with the land, year after year, letting each vine fully express its potential.

Climate change is a fact, and it has made it clear that working in the vineyards requires constant attention and care.
We start from the idea that every vine is a living, productive being, and our goal is to create a context as healthy and functional as possible so it can grow and thrive.

Tell us about the Marche — its grapes, its climate, its traditions. How do you see the region today compared to the one your parents knew? And could you paint us a picture of your vineyards and the landscape that surrounds them?
The Marche has always been a land of balance — rolling hills, clear light, and the Adriatic breeze shaping a landscape that still feels familiar to me, even as it changes. Compared to the region my parents knew, much has evolved, yet the essence remains: the rhythm of the seasons, the attachment to native grapes, and the quiet persistence of traditions that define daily life.

For us, this continuity is embodied by Bianchello. It has been part of our family for as long as I can remember — a grape that has sat on the tables of this area for centuries, accompanying meals, celebrations, and everyday moments. Working with it feels like taking part in a story that began long before us. It is not just a vine, but a thread that links generations.

We observe how all the vines react to the soil, the light, and the breeze, intervening only to keep it strong and in harmony with its surroundings. It is the way my family has always cared for this land: with respect, patience, and a deep sense of responsibility.
Arriving at Crespaia evokes a unique set of emotions: as you leave the city behind, the air softens and the scent of wild herbs rises from the hills. Gentle slopes unfold, dotted with oaks and cypress, while a cool sea breeze drifts through the vineyards.
The light shifts over the landscape, colors deepen, and a quiet calm settles, as if the land itself is embracing you and inviting you to slow down, breathe, and take in its harmony.

Bianchello tells all of this: the landscape, the continuity between generations, and the identity of a region that changes without losing its soul. For us, honoring the Marche means letting this story continue, bottle after bottle, with the same respect my family has always had for these hills.
